do movies shows, or music videos influence to smoke and use drugs

I dont think that movies, tv shows, or videos influence people to smoke because, usually when someone in a show or movie smokes and uses drugs  their character will probably end up dying or having some type of sickness like lung cancer. In mosr shows the people around a smoker or drug user encourage them to stop and push them and persuade them. In grand torino the man smokes and is really tough but we see him become really sick
